Political activity has increased ahead of the Datia by-election, with BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra purchasing a nomination form on Wednesday. The party is yet to announce its official candidate for the seat.
Congress leader Rajendra Bharti said the party leadership could choose another candidate if it found a stronger option. He said he would support the party’s decision and work for the candidate’s victory.
Nine nomination forms have been purchased so far in the first three days of the election process. Along with Narottam Mishra, several other aspirants have also collected forms.
Earlier, candidates from different political groups had purchased nomination forms, but no candidate has officially filed a nomination yet.
Rajendra Bharti said the final decision on the Congress candidate would be taken by the party leadership. He added that he would support whoever is selected by the party.
The final list of candidates will be clear after the completion of the nomination process.
