GWALIOR: Police arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly running an IPL betting racket during the Lucknow-Punjab Kings match on Saturday night.
A joint team of the Crime Branch and Murar police caught the accused near Singhpur Road Hawkers Zone after receiving a tip-off.
Police identified the accused as Harsh Gupta, a resident of Dubalgunj in the Murar area. He lived at Madhavi Residency in CP Colony and originally belonged to Sendhwa in Barwani district.
During questioning, Gupta allegedly told police that he received betting lines from handlers based in Delhi. He then used online platforms to accept bets on IPL matches.
Police recovered a Redmi mobile phone from the accused. Officers found online betting records and transactions worth lakhs of rupees on the device.
Investigators said the accused used a betting website through Google Chrome during the Lucknow-Punjab Kings match.
Police registered a case under the Madhya Pradesh Public Gambling Act. They are now searching for others linked to the betting network.
