Law students in Bhind print fake vehicle documents, rent cars, and steal them back using hidden GPS devices
Three men are in custody while two remain on the run after police broke up a smart vehicle theft group in Bhind. The members studied law and prepared for competitive exams while running a network that stole cars twice from unsuspecting buyers.
Fake papers and hidden trackers use by Law students
The group rented four-wheeler vehicles first. They changed details on the registration cards, printed fake RC documents, and created stamp paper agreements. They then sold these vehicles to buyers who had no idea about the trick.
Before selling, the members placed hidden GPS devices inside the cars. They tracked the vehicles online and stole them back at night within two to four days of the sale.
Patient trap using a sick child story
The fraud came to light when Pawan Bhadoriya filed a complaint at Barohi police station. Pawan wanted to buy a used car, and a mutual contact introduced him to one of the seller group members.
The suspect claimed his daughter was seriously ill and needed quick money for medical treatment. He offered his WagonR car for Rs 4 lakh.
To build trust, the suspect showed photocopies of an ID card and registration papers. Pawan paid Rs 1.68 lakh in cash and signed a notary agreement on a Rs 1,000 e-stamp. Both parties agreed that Pawan would pay the remaining Rs 2.32 lakh during the official title transfer.
Pawan parked the car outside his home on the night of July 26. The vehicle disappeared by morning.
Threatening victims who complained
Police officers found that the group used local criminals to scare anyone who raised doubts. If a buyer asked for a refund or wanted to visit a police station after the car went missing, the group sent local goons from Supavali to intimidate them into staying silent.
Well-educated members behind the racket
- Barohi police and the cyber cell arrested three primary members:
- Mayank Rathore: Resident of Gadaipura, preparing for SSC-CGL exams.
- Prashant Rathore: Resident of Gadaipura, final-year LLB student.
- Dharmendra Rawat: Resident of Gohad area.
Police recovered the stolen WagonR car, fake registration cards, and Rs 30,000 in cash from the suspects. During questioning, the men confessed to stealing two more cars using the same method from Khurd village and the BTI area in Bhind.
Barohi Police Station In-charge Atul Bhadoriya stated that technical team evidence and local informants led to the arrests. Police teams are currently raiding locations to arrest the remaining two fleeing members, including Nagad Dhanoliya.
