No Bills, No Papers: Rs 44 Lakh Silver Seized from Train Passengers

RPF held two men travelling on the Mumbai-Banaras Express in Itarsi after they failed to show any valid bills for the silver jewellery in their bags.

Bhopal: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has seized silver jewellery worth around Rs 44 lakh from two men travelling on a train in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. The seizure was made under “Operation Satark”, a drive aimed at checking suspicious activity on trains and railway premises.

RPF personnel found nearly 19 kg of silver jewellery in the bags of the two men. Neither of them could produce a valid bill or any document to prove ownership of the jewellery. They were later handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Itarsi for further action.

The seizure took place on Wednesday when Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar Mishra and Constable Jaswant Singh were on patrol duty. They spotted two men carrying heavy bags in the general coach of train number 22177, the Mumbai-Banaras Mahanagari Express. The men appeared suspicious, and officers decided to check their bags.

The search led to the recovery of a large quantity of silver jewellery. During questioning, the men gave their names as Lucky Rajwani and Rakesh Jat, both residents of Bhopal.

“The seized silver jewellery, weighing close to 19 kg, has been valued at approximately Rs 44 lakh,” RPF officials said.

The two men told officers that they worked for a jeweller named Basant Soni in Bhopal and were carrying the silver to Pipariya for supply. However, they could not show any documents to support this claim.

Given the seriousness of the case, the RPF handed over both men, along with the seized silver, to the GRP in Itarsi. The GRP has registered a case and is investigating the matter further.

RPF continues to keep a close watch on railway premises and trains under Operation Satark. The force has said it remains committed to passenger safety and to stopping illegal activity in the railway network.
