Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a career that lasted more than a decade. He shared the news on Thursday through a social media post, thanking everyone who supported him during his journey with the Indian team.
Rahane made his international debut in 2011 and went on to represent India in Test matches, One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. He became known for his calm approach, reliable batting and strong performances, especially in overseas Test matches. Over the years, he played an important role in several memorable victories for India.
One of the biggest highlights of his career came during India’s 2020–21 Test tour of Australia. Rahane captained the team after the first Test and led India to a historic series win despite several key players being unavailable. His century in the Melbourne Test is widely remembered as one of his finest innings.
Rahane last played international cricket in 2023. Although he continued to perform in domestic cricket, he did not return to the national side.
