US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will target Iranian bridges and power plants if Iran attacks ships in the Strait of Hormuz, according to media reports.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the US would respond to any attack by Iran on commercial or military vessels in the strategic waterway, regardless of whether missiles, rockets or drones were used. He said one bridge or power plant would be destroyed for every attack on a ship, including facilities near Tehran.
The warning came after the US military carried out its 11th straight night of operations against Iran, according to media reports.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its latest operation lasted about 75 minutes and targeted military operations centres, maritime facilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage sites and logistics infrastructure. The military said the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to media reports, Washington has accused Iran of attacking more than 30 commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz during the past three months. Iran has not accepted the allegations.
Media reports said the current conflict began on February 28 after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Tehran later responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military bases.
The conflict has since expanded across the region. According to media reports, fighting involving Iran, Israel and the US has caused heavy casualties and displaced large numbers of people.
An Iranian health ministry official claimed recent US strikes killed 50 civilians and injured around 500 others. Media reports also said recent US military operations have resulted in 18 American troop deaths. These claims could not be independently verified.
