BJP MP VD Sharma’s wife says petrol, diesel may soon be sold on EMI amid rising fuel prices
Vishnu Dutt Sharma’s wife, Stuti Mishra, has triggered a debate on inflation and fuel prices after posting on social media that petrol and diesel may soon be available on EMI.
In a Facebook post shared on Saturday morning, Mishra wrote that the day is not far when banks could start offering loans for petrol and diesel, much like home, vehicle and business loans. She linked the issue to global conditions and rising inflation. Her post also carried hashtags including “Oil War”, “Petrol-Diesel” and “Dollar”.
The remark came amid another hike in fuel prices by oil marketing companies. Petrol prices rose by 87 paise per litre, while diesel prices increased by 91 paise per litre on Saturday. In several parts of Madhya Pradesh, petrol became costlier by more than Rs 1 per litre after the latest revision.
The post drew mixed reactions from users on social media. Some linked the statement to the financial stress faced by ordinary citizens because of inflation, while others questioned the variation in fuel prices across states.
One user, Ramkrishna Mishra, commented that when young people start expressing their pain through satire, the issue goes beyond politics and reflects a wider communication and governance challenge.
BJP leader Rahul Singh Rathore also responded to the post. He referred to fuel prices during the Covid-19 period and raised questions about petrol pricing despite lower crude oil rates in the international market at the time. He also highlighted differences in fuel prices among states.
Attempts were made to contact Hemant Khandelwal for a response. However, he was reportedly on a tour of the Gwalior-Chambal region and could not be reached.
