In the video, Meloni says: “Prime Minister Modi brought us a gift… very, very good toffee,” before both leaders burst into laughter.
Video Goes Viral Across Social Media
The clip quickly gained traction online, clocking nearly one million views, over 60,000 reactions and around 5,000 comments within an hour of being posted.
Users across X and Instagram shared memes, screenshots and edited clips, with many calling it the “ultimate #Melodi moment”.
The phrase “#Melodi” a blend of Modi and Meloni’s surnames first went viral during the COP28 summit in Dubai in 2023. At the time, Meloni posted a selfie with Modi and captioned it: “Good friends at COP28 #Melodi.”
The post sparked a wave of memes and jokes across India and Italy. Since then, interactions between the two leaders at G7 summits and other global forums have repeatedly generated online buzz.
Melody Toffee Adds Nostalgic Touch
The latest exchange also struck a nostalgic chord among Indian social media users.
Melody, manufactured by Parle Products, remains one of India’s most recognisable candy brands. The toffee is closely associated with its iconic slogan: “Melody itni chocolaty kyun hai?”
Modi in Rome for Final Leg of Diplomatic Tour
The viral moment came during Modi’s visit to Rome as part of the final leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour.
Soon after arriving in the Italian capital, Modi met Meloni over dinner and later accompanied her to the Colosseum.
The Prime Minister also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in Rome and thanked the community for strengthening India-Italy ties.
Beyond the social media buzz, the visit is expected to focus on expanding cooperation between India and Italy in trade, defence, maritime security, connectivity and other strategic sectors.
