Cumulative price hike of Rs 1,300 in three months pushes up restaurant and wedding catering costs by 15 per cent
State-run oil marketing companies increased the prices of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders by up to Rs 44 in Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
Following this latest revision, a 19-kg commercial cylinder will now cost Rs 3,116.50 in Bhopal. Meanwhile, prices reached Rs 3,222.50 in Indore and peaked at Rs 3,338.50 in Gwalior.
This marks the fourth price hike in the last three months, totaling a cumulative increase of nearly Rs 1,300. Industry experts warn that the steady increase in fuel rates will immediately impact food prices. Restaurant dining and catering services across the state are already reporting a 10 to 15 per cent increase in operational costs.

Wedding Budgets Feel the Hit
The price hike comes at a difficult time for consumers, as Madhya Pradesh enters a busy social calendar with over 20,000 weddings scheduled through July. Representatives from the catering industry stated that the rising fuel costs are disrupting pre-planned event budgets.
Rambabu Sharma from the MP Tent Caters Association explained that the cylinder price hike has added a 10 per cent straight inflationary pressure on large-scale catering. For instance, a standard wedding food budget of Rs 5 lakh for 500 guests now costs an extra Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 just to cover cooking fuel expenses.
