Bhopal: Thousands of people took part in Muharram processions across Bhopal on Friday to remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain at Karbala.
Some people wore T-shirts with the image of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Others carried posters that linked the message of Karbala with recent events, including the Pahalgam terror attack, violence in Manipur, the war in Gaza and the Iran-Israel conflict.
One poster read, “Karbala – A Voice Against Oppression.” It also said, “Terrorism anywhere in the world is a threat to peace everywhere.”
The processions passed through different parts of the city before gathering at Imami Gate for a joint mourning ceremony. They then moved to the Karbala grounds on VIP Road.
Police made extra security arrangements in the Old City. No untoward incidents were reported.
