BHOPAL: A 34-year-old woman from Bhopal was killed and a 59-year-old man injured after four to five vehicles collided on the BheruGhat stretch of the Agra-Mumbai four-lane highway near Mhow on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The crash occurred on the downhill section of the highway in the Manpur area. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the woman dead. The injured man is undergoing treatment.
The accident briefly disrupted traffic before police cleared the damaged vehicles and restored normal movement on the highway.
Preliminary findings suggest the collision was triggered when vehicles lost control on the steep descent, resulting in a chain-reaction crash after sudden braking. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
BheruGhat is considered an accident-prone stretch because of its steep gradient, high vehicle speeds and frequent movement of heavy vehicles.
