Tamil Nadu CM Directs Officials to Crack Down on Crime

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Monday asked district collectors and police officials to take fair and strict action against criminals without political pressure.

Speaking at a meeting of district collectors, police superintendents and senior officials, Vijay said action should be based on the law, regardless of a person’s influence. He also said innocent people should not face any action.

The chief minister directed officials to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking, illegal sand mining and organised crime. He asked police to increase monitoring around schools, carry out regular checks and take quick action in drug-related cases.

Vijay said the safety of women, children and students must remain a top priority. He also urged officials to focus on preventing crime by identifying its causes.

Calling for a transparent and corruption-free administration, the chief minister said the government would continue to improve essential public services such as drinking water, healthcare, education, electricity and public transport.

He also announced plans to set up district-level committees to help resolve land disputes, which can sometimes lead to law and order issues in rural areas.
