Delhi witnessed severe waterlogging and traffic disruption on Tuesday morning after heavy rain lashed the national capital and adjoining NCR areas, according to media reports.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi and forecast further heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across the region.
Several major roads and junctions were affected by waterlogging, with vehicles seen moving slowly through flooded stretches. According to media reports, waterlogging was reported near Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, AIIMS, Ashoka Road, the Supreme Court and Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
Heavy rain also affected Parliament Street, Connaught Place, ITO, RK Puram and Ferozeshah Road.
Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were also disrupted. Airline tracking platform Flightradar24 reportedly showed that 18 flights were cancelled and 166 delayed on Tuesday.
The IMD said moderate rainfall was expected across several parts of Delhi, while isolated areas could receive heavy to extremely heavy rain. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds were also forecast.
According to media reports, Gurugram and Faridabad were placed under a yellow alert, while Noida remained under heavy cloud cover.
Heavy rainfall on Monday had also disrupted normal life across Delhi-NCR, causing severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. Several flights were cancelled, diverted or delayed.
The IMD attributed the intense rainfall to weather systems, including the interaction of a western disturbance with a lower-level trough extending across parts of northern India.
