Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has called for promoting modern farming, food processing and allied activities to increase farmers’ incomes and strengthen rural development.
Addressing the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Shajapur district via video conference from Bodh Gaya, Bihar, on Saturday, CM interacted with farmers and outlined the state government’s agricultural initiatives.
He said Shajapur, a major producer of onion, potato and soybean, had significant potential for agro-based industries and solar energy projects. Proposed road and expressway projects could further improve farmers’ access to markets.
Under its Krishak Kalyan Varsh initiative, the government is promoting irrigation, solar pumps, storage facilities, food processing and natural farming. CM encouraged farmers to diversify their income through dairy farming, animal husbandry, floriculture and fisheries.
He also highlighted plans to strengthen the Sanchi Milk Union, establish potato and onion processing units, develop food parks and improve storage infrastructure.
The chief minister said rural connectivity would be expanded under the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Bus Scheme. He also cited wheat procurement at the minimum support price (MSP), bonuses for wheat growers and the Bhavantar Yojana as measures to support farmers.
Mahendra Singh Yadav, administrator of the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Bank, highlighted the role of agriculture in rural development and referred to assistance provided under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
Shajapur MLA Arun Bhimawad said the event aimed to familiarise farmers with improved agricultural practices and help them increase their incomes.
