West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticised the BJP following an alleged attack on the residence of her nephew, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, in Kolkata.
During a visit to Abhishek’s residence, Mamata challenged the BJP over the alleged use of bulldozers, saying: “Come, I am standing right in front of you. Run the bulldozers over my body, my chest. I want to see how courageous you are.”
Abhishek alleged that BJP-backed supporters attacked his residence on Kalighat Road at around 2am following a clash involving supporters of rival political factions. He described the incident as a threat to his life and claimed it was the seventh attempt on his life in six months.
In a post on X, the Diamond Harbour MP also accused the police of failing to take action over the incident. These allegations have not been independently established.
Mamata also accused authorities of disrupting traditional Kali Puja celebrations in Kalighat. She alleged that permissions for some long-standing community celebrations had been withdrawn, while a newly organised event was allowed on the main road.
She questioned the arrangements, claiming they had obstructed traditional festivities and local clubs.
The BJP’s response to the allegations was not included in the available reports.
