Bhopal: Markets across Bhopal witnessed strong buying activity during the Dhanteras and Diwali festive season, with shoppers purchasing jewellery, vehicles, property, electronics and household goods, according to media reports.
Around 16,500 vehicles were sold in the city, including 2,145 electric vehicles, accounting for approximately 13% of total sales. Compact and mid-sized sports utility vehicles (SUVs) were particularly popular. However, overall vehicle sales were reportedly 2% lower than last year.
The property market also recorded significant activity, with 668 registration documents processed on Dhanteras, generating more than Rs 13 crore in government revenue. More than 400 registrations were related to property transactions.
Registration offices extended their working hours and increased appointment slots to manage the festive rush.
Jewellery, electronics, clothing, steel and brass utensils, sweets and decorative items also attracted customers as families prepared for Diwali.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimated that festive business across Madhya Pradesh could reach around Rs 4,500 crore.
The figures are based on media reports and trade estimates, rather than audited final sales data.
