Bhopal tea vendor dies after touching damaged electric wire

A 53-year-old tea vendor died during treatment after suffering an electric shock from a damaged electric wire while working at his roadside cart in Bhopal. The incident took place in the Imami Gate area, and CCTV footage of the accident has also surfaced. Police have started an investigation into the case.

The deceased, Chetram Kirar, was a resident of Obaidullaganj and had been living in Bhopal for nearly 15 years. He earned a living by running a tea and snacks cart in the Peer Gate area.

The accident took place on June 21 when Chetram was serving customers at his cart. According to police, an electric stove kept near the cart had a damaged power wire. He was reportedly unaware of the fault.

As soon as he came in contact with the exposed wire, he suffered an electric shock and lost his balance. He fell from the cart and suffered a serious head injury.

People nearby rushed him to a hospital. He was later referred to Hamidia Hospital, where he remained under treatment. He died on Wednesday morning.

CCTV footage of the incident shows Chetram collapsing moments after the electric shock and falling from the cart.

Kotwali police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to his family.

Chetram is survived by his wife, one daughter and three sons. His death has left the family facing financial hardship. Police are examining all aspects of the incident, including the condition of the electrical equipment.
