Bhopal: Kamla Nehru Sandipani Girls Government School in TT Nagar, Bhopal, recorded 95.4% voter turnout in its student council election held on Aug 13.
The election was conducted for students from Classes 8 to 12, with 685 of the school’s 718 eligible student voters casting their ballots. The high turnout reflected strong student participation in the democratic process.
The election results were announced on Aug 15 during the school’s Independence Day programme. Seven students were elected to key student council positions.
Anupama of Class 12-B was elected Head Girl, while Diksha Kataria of Class 11-A was chosen as Deputy Head Girl. Bhawna Pate of Class 10-B was elected Secretary and Megha Tomar of Class 9-C became Deputy Secretary.
Prachi Chaudhary of Class 12-B was elected Administrative Minister, while Shalini Bardel of Class 12-B was elected Cultural Minister. Shivani of Class 12-B was elected Sports Minister.
The elected representatives were presented with victory certificates during the school programme.
The student council election is aimed at developing leadership skills, decision-making abilities and a sense of responsibility among students. It also gives students practical exposure to democratic participation and strengthens awareness of democratic values.
The school administration congratulated all the elected students and wished them a successful tenure.
Principal Sangeeta Saxena said the school election aims to help students understand the importance of elections, voting and democracy. By experiencing the election process, students learn the value of their opinions and votes and how to exercise their right to vote when they become eligible voters.
Political Science teacher Abhishek Kushwaha said the school election is being conducted in a manner similar to elections held in the country. The process includes campaigning, nominations and the implementation of a code of conduct, giving students practical experience of the electoral process.
