BHOPAL: A retired railway employee and his wife, a retired nurse, were found shot dead at their home in Ashbagh, Bhopal, police said. Investigators are probing all possible motives, including a property dispute involving assets worth about Rs 2 crore.
The bodies of the 70-year-old couple were discovered after neighbours alerted police to a foul smell coming from the house. Investigators believe the bodies had remained inside the house for about two days.
A preliminary post-mortem found that the man died after being shot once in the head, while his wife sustained two gunshot wounds, including one to the head. Police recovered three spent cartridges from the scene, which have been sent for forensic examination.
Police said there were no signs of robbery, with valuables found undisturbed inside the house. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined, while tenants living in another section of the property are being questioned.
The couple lived alone and had no children. According to police, investigators are examining property-related documents, forensic evidence and witness statements to determine the motive behind the killings.
The investigation is ongoing, and police said further action will be taken based on forensic findings and other evidence.
