Is 45 the new layoff age in Corporate India?

Job security among mid-career professionals in India is facing renewed scrutiny following reported workforce cuts at global companies including Oracle and Adidas.

As per media reports, Oracle has cut jobs in India as part of wider restructuring, with product engineering teams reportedly among those affected. The company has not officially confirmed the number of employees impacted. Oracle continues to invest in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and data centres while reshaping parts of its workforce.

Adidas has also confirmed reductions in some technology roles in India. Media reports have suggested that a significant share of employees at its Gurugram technology hub could be affected, although the company has not confirmed the reported figure. Adidas said the changes were aimed at aligning its operations with changing business needs.

The developments have raised concerns among professionals in their 40s, although there is no evidence of a fixed age at which companies conduct layoffs.

As per data cited by Layoffs.fyi, more than 128,000 technology employees globally had lost their jobs across 299 companies by September 10, 2026. The figure had already exceeded the total recorded during 2025.

Experts say restructuring, automation and AI adoption are changing corporate hiring patterns. For mid-career workers, higher salaries and senior roles can create additional challenges during restructuring.

Experience remains valuable, but professionals may increasingly need to update their skills and adapt to changing technology and business requirements.
