PM Modi Leads CCS Meeting to Assess West Asia Crisis

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in Parliament on Thursday to review the evolving situation in West Asia and assess its potential impact on India’s energy security, according to media reports.

The meeting focused on India’s preparedness to deal with any disruption to imports of crude oil, petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other critical energy supplies in the event of further escalation in the region.

According to media reports, those attending the meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Health Minister J.P. Nadda.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also present. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval attended the meeting alongside senior government and security officials.

According to media reports, the CCS reviewed contingency plans aimed at ensuring uninterrupted fuel supplies should the security situation in West Asia deteriorate further.

West Asia remains a key source of India’s energy imports, accounting for a substantial share of the country’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) requirements. Officials are closely monitoring developments in the region amid concerns that prolonged instability could affect global energy markets and supply chains.

The meeting took place during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. An official statement on the outcome of the discussions was awaited at the time of writing.
