INDORE: Police in Indore have registered two separate rape cases after women accused men of sexually assaulting them on the pretext of marriage.
In the first case, Lasudia police registered an FIR on the complaint of a student who alleged that a fellow student raped her after promising to marry her. According to police, the two had known each other for nearly two years and were in a relationship.
The woman alleged that the accused took her to an area on the outskirts of the city on June 22 and sexually assaulted her after assuring her that they would soon marry. She later informed her family about the incident. When her mother approached the accused regarding marriage, he allegedly questioned the woman’s character and refused to marry her.
Police registered a case on Wednesday and began an investigation.
In a separate case, Bhanwarkuan police registered a rape case after a 21-year-old woman alleged that a man she met during a train journey sexually assaulted her after promising marriage.
According to the complaint, the two became acquainted in 2024 and remained in contact. The woman alleged that the accused took her to a hotel in Bhanwarkuan in October 2024 and established physical relations with her after assuring her that he would marry her. She alleged that the relationship continued on several occasions before the accused later refused to marry her.
The woman also alleged that the accused threatened to circulate her photographs and videos if she continued to press for marriage. Police said an investigation is underway.
