INDORE: An illegal liquor manufacturing unit operating from a three-storey building in Indore’s Tulsi Nagar area has been dismantled by the Excise Department, which seized 144 bulk litres of liquor along with counterfeit labels, holograms and packaging materials.
The raid was carried out after officials conducted three days of surveillance following a tip-off about suspicious activities at the property. Investigators found a fully operational setup for the manufacture and packaging of illicit liquor inside the building.
During the operation, officials recovered 16 cartons containing 144 bulk litres of country liquor, spirit, caramel, packaging materials, bottle caps, cartons and two industrial blending machines. Thousands of counterfeit labels and holograms of various liquor brands were also seized.
According to officials, the recovered materials indicate that liquor was being produced on a large scale and packaged under the names of established brands before being supplied to the market.
Investigators also recovered labels, holograms and packaging materials linked to brands sold in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, raising suspicions of an organised interstate network involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit liquor.
A suspect was arrested from the premises and booked under the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. The seized liquor and materials have been sent for scientific examination.
The investigation is continuing to identify other individuals linked to the operation, trace supply routes and examine the financial network behind the alleged racket.
Officials have appealed to the public to report any information related to the manufacture, storage, transportation or sale of illicit liquor, assuring that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
