Bhopal: 700 Kg of Analogue Paneer Seized Outside Railway Station

Bhopal: The Food Safety and Drug Administration seized more than 700 kg of analogue paneer worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh outside Bhopal railway station ahead of Diwali, according to the details provided.

Bhopal Station incident

The operation was carried out around 2 am on Tuesday night. Officials said the consignment had been transported from Morena by train. A case was registered based on the available transport documents and bills, while the operation continued into Wednesday morning.

The seizure comes around three months after the Madhya Pradesh government imposed a ban on analogue paneer across the state. It is being reported as the first such action following the ban.

Supply Chain Under Investigation

Food safety officials are investigating where the seized consignment was supposed to be delivered. The team is attempting to identify the hotels, restaurants, dairies or other establishments that may have received the product. Further action may follow if violations are established.

What Is Analogue Paneer?

Analogue paneer is a cheese-like product made using ingredients such as vegetable fats, starch and, in some formulations, dairy ingredients. Unlike conventional paneer made primarily from milk, its composition can vary depending on the product.

It is generally cheaper than dairy paneer, which can make it attractive to commercial kitchens and catering businesses. However, analogue paneer is not automatically fake or unsafe simply because it is an analogue product. Its labelling, composition and compliance with applicable food safety regulations are important factors.

Consumers should check packaging and ingredient lists, including terms such as “analogue,” “imitation” or “vegetable fat,” and avoid unlabelled products from uncertain sources.

NHRC Had Raised Concerns

The National Human Rights Commission had reportedly raised concerns over the sale of analogue paneer and decided to take up the matter with states, including Madhya Pradesh. Despite the state’s reported ban, the latest seizure has raised questions about the movement and distribution of the product.

The investigation is expected to establish the intended recipients of the seized consignment and whether any further violations occurred.
