BHOPAL: A shocking murder and robbery case has emerged from a rural area on the outskirts of Bhopal, where a 60-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death before her legs were severed with an axe to remove silver anklets.
The victim was reportedly taken away from her home on 4 June by a man known to the family, who allegedly lured her with the promise of meeting her son. When she failed to return, relatives searched for her and later reported her missing.
The case came to light on 8 June when the suspect informed the victim’s husband that a body was lying in a forested area. The husband and his son went to the location and found the woman’s body beneath a mahua tree.
The body, believed to have been lying there for four to five days, was in an advanced state of decomposition and infested with maggots. Investigators found that both legs had been severed near the ankles, while one hand was also partially mutilated. The silver anklets she had been wearing were missing.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly strangled the woman before using an axe to cut off her legs and remove the jewellery. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the crime.
Police have arrested the suspect and registered a case of murder and robbery. Investigators are continuing to examine whether the motive was solely theft or if other factors may have been involved.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area due to the brutality of the crime.
