The book highlights the growing need for media literacy and explains the role of traditional and digital media in shaping society.
Bhopal: A new book by Dr Pradeep Daheria, senior faculty member in the Department of Mass Communication at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (MCU), was released during the university’s Artificial Intelligence Faculty Development Programme (AI FDP).
The book, titled Janmadhyam Yuva Aur Media Saksharta (Mass Media, Youth and Media Literacy), was unveiled by MCU Vice-Chancellor Vijay Manohar Tiwari along with IIIT Bhopal Director Prof Ashutosh Kumar Singh, media and information technology expert Balendu Sharma Dadhich, Registrar Prof P Shashikala, Head of the Department of Mass Communication Prof Sanjay Dwivedi, Head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations Prof Pavitra Shrivastava, and Prof Aarti Sarang, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science.
Dr Daheria has been teaching and researching media studies for more than 15 years. His latest book focuses on the relationship between mass media, young people and media literacy at a time when misinformation and digital content are becoming part of everyday life.
The author explains why media literacy is important for society and how it helps people understand, analyse and verify information. The book also discusses different forms of mass communication, including print, radio, television, digital platforms, the internet and social media, with practical examples.
The foreword has been written by senior journalist and thinker Vijay Manohar Tiwari, who currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of MCU.
Speaking at the event, the guests welcomed the publication and described it as a valuable resource for students, researchers and academic institutions working in the fields of journalism, communication and media studies.
