Metro Opens Coaches, Stations For Events Under ‘Celebration On Wheels’ Policy

BHOPAL/INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has launched a policy that allows use of metro coaches and selected station premises for social, cultural and commercial activities, officials said.

Under the “Celebration on Wheels” policy, events such as film shoots, advertisements, pre-wedding photography and small private gatherings can be organised. However, authorities will grant permission only after approval and subject to safety norms. The facility will operate in both Bhopal and Indore.

Policy Objective

MPMRCL Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya said the move aligns metro services with changing urban usage patterns. Moreover, he said the policy seeks to improve public engagement. At the same time, it allows citizens to use metro spaces without affecting regular operations.

Booking Process

Applicants must submit requests at least 15 days in advance. Thereafter, authorities will process bookings on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals, institutions and production houses can apply through designated channels.

Tariff And Capacity

Officials fixed the tariff at Rs 5,000 per hour for a stationary, undecorated coach. Meanwhile, a moving coach will cost Rs 7,000 per hour. In addition, organisers must deposit Rs 20,000 per coach as a refundable security.

Private events such as birthdays or pre-wedding gatherings can host up to 50 people. Beyond this limit, additional attendees must follow standard fare rules.

Safety And Operational Norms

Authorities will enforce strict safety checks for all events. Further, security screening will remain mandatory. The rules also prohibit flammable materials, fire-based decorations, alcohol consumption and smoking.

Officials said events will not disrupt passenger services. Therefore, organisers must follow all operational guidelines. They will also bear the cost of any damage during events.

Revenue And Review

MPMRCL expects the policy to generate non-fare revenue and improve asset use. Additionally, officials said the corporation will review public response before expanding the initiative further.
