The MP Child Helpline 1098 has assisted more than 30,000 vulnerable children across Madhya Pradesh in the past financial year, emerging as a critical safety net for children facing abuse, neglect, exploitation and homelessness under the state’s Mission Vatsalya programme.
According to the Women and Child Development Department, the 24×7 helpline supported 30,810 children during the 2025-26 financial year. The service has continued its outreach in the current financial year, helping 4,376 children by May 15, 2026. Officials said 2,367 cases have already been resolved, while follow-up action is underway in the remaining cases.
The initiative has gained momentum under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, whose administration has focused on strengthening child welfare mechanisms and emergency response systems across the state.
MP Child Helpline 1098 Strengthens Child Protection Network
Operating under Mission Vatsalya, the helpline provides immediate assistance to children facing violence, abuse, child labour, trafficking and abandonment. It also facilitates counselling services, legal support and rehabilitation measures designed to ensure long-term protection.
Officials said the upgraded system now categorises calls based on urgency. Emergency cases involving immediate threats to a child’s safety are transferred directly to the Response Support System (RSS-112), enabling police and rescue teams to intervene without delay.
Non-emergency complaints are forwarded to the respective District Child Protection Units (DCPUs) for further action and monitoring.
The department said the service plays a crucial role in rescuing children from exploitative situations and reuniting missing children with their families. It has also provided support to children affected by trafficking, homelessness and other forms of vulnerability.
Major Impact Recorded in Urban Centres
The highest number of interventions has been reported from major districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Sagar and Satna, where child protection teams have remained particularly active.
Officials noted that the initiative is designed not only to respond to emergencies but also to create a safer environment where children can access their rights without fear or discrimination.
The Women and Child Development Department has appealed to citizens to report cases involving child labour, child marriage, abuse, trafficking or any form of exploitation. Authorities urged residents to contact Child Helpline 1098 immediately whenever a child is found in distress.
The department said timely reporting by citizens can play a decisive role in protecting children and ensuring their rehabilitation.
