US forces strike Iranian radar and drone sites as US-Iran maritime conflict intensifies

US conducts retaliatory strikes on Iranian military sites amid reports of presidential resignation in Tehran

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Monday that American forces conducted precision air strikes against Iranian radar and drone control facilities on Goruk and Qeshm islands. The military action follows a sharp escalation in the ongoing US-Iran maritime conflict, including the shooting down of a US MQ-1 drone by Iranian forces in international waters on Sunday.

The American strikes destroyed Iranian air defence systems and a ground control station, according to official US statements. Simultaneously, unconfirmed reports from ‘Iran International’ suggest a deepening political crisis in Tehran, claiming that President Masoud Pezeshkian has resigned. The reports indicate Pezeshkian alleged that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders have assumed total control over the nation’s governance.

“The United States acted in self-defence to eliminate immediate threats to regional maritime security. We remain vigilant against continued Iranian aggression while maintaining our commitment to protecting international waters,” a CENTCOM spokesperson stated.

In a counter-claim, the IRGC asserted that its forces targeted an airbase used by US operations near Sirik Island. Meanwhile, the conflict continues to broaden as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned recent Iranian missile launches targeting US positions in Kuwait, which were intercepted by American air defences.

The regional instability is further compounded by Israeli military movements in southern Lebanon, where the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reportedly seized the historic Beaufort Castle. France has responded by calling for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to address the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation.

Experts warn that this escalation in the US-Iran maritime conflict could severely disrupt global oil supply lines through the Strait of Hormuz. Observers are closely watching how regional powers respond to these rapid developments.
