SHEOPUR : Four one-month-old cheetah cubs were found dead near a den site at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
According to a statement issued by Project Cheetah authorities, the cubs were discovered by a monitoring team around 6:30 a.m. in the Sheopur Territorial Division. The cubs, born on April 11 to female cheetah KGP12, were last seen alive on Monday evening.
Officials said the carcasses were found partially eaten and that, prima facie, the deaths appeared to be due to predation by another wild animal. Authorities said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after post-mortem examinations and a detailed investigation.
Forest officials said the mother cheetah is safe and being monitored.
Project Cheetah officials added that all surviving cheetahs at Kuno and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary are currently healthy.
