KHARGONE: A 17-year-old teenager was critically injured after a sharp iron angle fixed atop a boundary wall pierced through his jaw and exited through his mouth in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district on Friday evening, officials said.
The incident occurred in Barwah town when the teenager was playing with friends near the CISF residential campus on Jayanti Mata Road.
According to local residents, the teenager was attempting to climb over the boundary wall to retrieve his slippers after they were thrown to the other side during play. While scaling the wall, he reportedly lost balance and fell onto the sharp iron angle mounted on the wall.
The rod pierced through the upper portion of his neck and jaw, leaving him trapped and seriously injured. On hearing his cries, local residents and family members rushed to the spot.
Eyewitnesses said people refrained from pulling out the rod immediately, fearing excessive bleeding. After nearly 30 minutes of effort, the protruding portion of the iron angle was cut using a metal cutter. The teenager was then taken to Barwah Civil Hospital with part of the rod still lodged in his neck.
Doctors at the civil hospital administered first aid before referring him to Indore for specialised treatment due to the severity of the injury.
A doctor said the decision not to remove the rod at the scene likely prevented a fatal outcome.
“If the rod had been pulled out immediately, it could have caused severe bleeding and the boy might not have survived. The iron angle had penetrated nearly five inches into the upper part of his neck,” the doctor said.
Doctors in Indore later performed surgery and successfully removed the rod. Hospital authorities said the teenager is now out of danger and recovering.
