Dhar: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Monday inaugurated the deepening work of the historic Devi Sagar Talab in Dhar and participated in shramdaan as part of the state government’s “Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan” on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra.
During the programme, CM performed traditional rituals at the talab and appealed to citizens to actively participate in water conservation and the revival of traditional water bodies through public participation.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said water conservation should be treated as a social movement rather than only a government responsibility. He said the state government is carrying out efforts across Madhya Pradesh to conserve, rejuvenate and expand water resources.
Public representatives, local leaders and senior officials were also present at the event.
Programmes linked to Ganga Dussehra were organised across the state, including worship ceremonies at water bodies and Ganga Kalash Yatras aimed at spreading awareness about water conservation.
Devi Sagar Talab is among the historic “Saadhe Barah Talabs” of Dhar, known for their traditional water management systems developed during the rule of the Parmar and later Pawar dynasties. The talab has historically played a key role in supplying water to the city.
Officials said the talab was designed to naturally receive overflow water from upper reservoirs, ensuring a continuous water supply system. Local authorities and social organisations regularly conduct awareness campaigns and cleaning drives for its conservation.
