BHOPAL: A 17-year-old girl died after allegedly consuming aluminium phosphide (sulphas) in Bhopal’s Gunga area after being reprimanded by her father for using a mobile phone late at night, police said on Sunday.
The teenager was rushed to hospital after her condition deteriorated but died during treatment in the early hours of Sunday. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Police said the student had recently passed her Class 12 examinations with a first division and was preparing to take admission to a private college.
According to investigators, she was using her mobile phone late on Saturday night when her father objected and scolded her. Upset by the reprimand, she reportedly went to the bathroom.
A short while later, her health began to deteriorate. When questioned by family members, she allegedly disclosed that she had consumed sulphas. Relatives immediately took her to hospital, where doctors began treatment. However, she succumbed during treatment.
Police reached the hospital after receiving information about the incident and completed the required legal formalities. The body was sent for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family.
A case has been registered and an investigation is under way. Police said statements from family members are being recorded and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
