BHOPAL/INDORE: Pre-monsoon rain and strong winds continued across parts of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, prompting the weather department to issue alerts for 21 districts.
Heavy rain was reported in Narmadapuram and Sehore, while thunderstorms and gusty winds affected several other areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kmph in some districts.
Satna recorded the highest wind speed at 59 kmph. Strong winds were also reported in Sehore, Agar Malwa, Dhar and Guna.
The weather department issued an orange alert for Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Sehore, Dewas, Harda and Betul. Officials said three cyclonic circulation systems remain active over the region, supporting the current spell of unsettled weather.
The rain and cloud cover brought relief from the heat, with temperatures falling across much of the state. Most cities recorded maximum temperatures below 40°C.
Among major cities, Indore recorded 35.1°C, Bhopal 35.5°C, Ujjain 35°C, Gwalior 37.9°C and Jabalpur 37.6°C.
The weather department said the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Madhya Pradesh between June 20 and June 22, around a week later than the usual arrival date of June 15.
