Domestic LPG Gets Costlier Across MP

BHOPAL/INDORE/GWALIOR: Domestic LPG cylinder prices have increased by Rs 29 across Madhya Pradesh, with the revised rates coming into effect from Sunday, according to media reports.

In Bhopal, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has risen to Rs 947.50 from Rs 918.50. The increase has pushed cylinder prices above Rs 1,000 in some cities, including Gwalior and Ujjain.

Under the revised rates, consumers will pay approximately Rs 970 in Indore, Rs 919.50 in Jabalpur, Rs 1,025.50 in Gwalior and Rs 1,001.50 in Ujjain.

The latest revision marks the second increase in domestic LPG prices in about three months. A previous hike in March had raised cylinder prices by Rs 60. Combined with the latest increase, domestic LPG prices have gone up by around Rs 110 during the period.

According to media reports, oil marketing companies cited higher international energy costs and losses on domestic LPG sales as reasons for the price increase.

Sources said state-run oil companies were incurring losses of about Rs 703 on each domestic LPG cylinder sold. The latest increase is expected to offset only part of those losses.

Smaller 5-kg LPG cylinders have also become costlier, with prices rising by Rs 11.

The increase follows recent rises in petrol, diesel and CNG prices. Petrol and diesel prices have increased by a combined Rs 7.50 per litre in recent weeks, while CNG prices have risen by around Rs 6 per kilogram, according to media reports.

Officials said not all of the increase in global energy prices has been passed on to consumers and that oil companies continue to absorb part of the additional cost.
