Fake soybean seeds seized in Tikamgarh raid

TIKAMGARH: Authorities in Tikamgarh have seized suspected fake soybean seeds and branded packaging materials ahead of the kharif sowing season.

Acting on an inspection report from the agriculture department, officials raided a warehouse and grading facility in a village near the district headquarters, where they found soybean stock stored without valid documentation.

Officials also recovered hundreds of empty seed bags of a reputed agri-brand, which were allegedly being used for repackaging uncertified soybean seeds for sale.

During the operation, 65 sacks of soybean weighing around 52 kg each were seized along with nearly 300 empty branded bags. Preliminary findings indicated that the seeds lacked required certification for the 2025–26 kharif season.

A seed certification report suggested that the unit had not declared verified production for the current season, raising concerns over the authenticity of the stock.

Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Seeds Act and the Essential Commodities Act. The seized material has been sealed and further investigation is underway
