BMC conducts special cleanliness campaign, collects Rs 6,000 in fines from 24 violators
BHOPAL, July 27: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) continued its ‘Safai Apnao–Bimari Bhagao’ (Adopt Cleanliness, Drive Away Disease) campaign on Monday, carrying out a special cleanliness drive across several parts of the city. The civic body also imposed fines on 24 people for violating sanitation rules and collected Rs 6,000 as spot penalties.
The campaign was conducted on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain to improve cleanliness during the monsoon season and encourage public participation in keeping the city clean.
Teams from Zone 14 carried out intensive cleaning of main roads, internal roads, dividers, central verges and side verges. Workers also removed overgrown weeds, including carrot grass, which commonly spreads during the rainy season. Civic teams cleared construction and demolition (C&D) waste from public places to improve sanitation and public convenience.
As part of the campaign, officials interacted with residents and shopkeepers, urging them to maintain cleanliness in their neighbourhoods and business establishments. Citizens were also encouraged to actively participate in sanitation activities and take a cleanliness pledge.
The corporation simultaneously took enforcement action against people violating civic rules. According to BMC officials, eight cases of littering attracted fines totalling Rs 1,200, while seven cases involving the use of single-use plastic and polythene bags resulted in penalties of Rs 700.
Six people were fined Rs 600 for spitting at public places. In two separate cases, officials imposed Rs 1,500 in penalties for dumping C&D waste on roads and public land. One person was also fined Rs 2,000 for defacing public property.
The Municipal Corporation said regular inspections and enforcement drives will continue across different parts of the city to improve sanitation, prevent the spread of seasonal diseases and ensure compliance with civic rules.
Residents have been urged to dispose of waste responsibly, avoid using banned single-use plastic and cooperate with civic teams to keep Bhopal clean.
