Hyderabad: An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad on Sunday after smoke was detected from a passenger’s personal electronic device onboard.
Flight 6E 6115 landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on October 11, 2026, the airline said.
According to an IndiGo spokesperson, the pilots diverted the aircraft in line with established safety procedures. The cabin crew responded promptly and brought the situation under control.
Preliminary reports suggested that a passenger’s power bank may have caught fire. However, the airline did not confirm the type of device involved or the cause of the smoke.
A passenger described the incident as frightening, saying it caused concern among those onboard. The passenger also said the crew worked to extinguish the fire before the aircraft landed in Hyderabad.
Alternate aircraft arranged
IndiGo said it had arranged an alternate aircraft to take passengers to Chennai. The airline apologised for the disruption and said it was providing refreshments and regular updates to minimise inconvenience.
The airline reiterated that passenger and crew safety remained its top priority.
Further details, including whether anyone was injured and the cause of the incident, were not immediately available.
