US President Donald Trump has announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an immediate halt to attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, although Kyiv said it had not been informed of the reported agreement.
According to media reports, Trump announced the proposed “energy ceasefire” in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, warning both sides against violating the arrangement. He did not provide further details.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Axios that Ukraine would accept the ceasefire if Russia agreed to it. He said Kyiv was ready to comply but sought clarification on when the truce would begin.
There was no immediate confirmation from Moscow of the reported agreement.
Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly targeted each other’s energy infrastructure since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, damaging critical facilities and disrupting energy supplies.
The announcement comes amid continued tensions over attacks on energy facilities and reports of discussions about Russian fuel supplies to the US. Zelenskyy has warned that revenue from such deals could help Moscow sustain its war effort.
Earlier on Sunday, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was prepared to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stopped strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
The reported ceasefire has yet to be independently confirmed by both sides.
