Rahul Gandhi Claims 200 Officials in Touch With Opposition

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday claimed that around 200 government officials were in contact with the Opposition and sharing information, while demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Speaking at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on 12 October, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said the officials included personnel associated with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Ministry of External Affairs. He did not identify them or publicly disclose evidence supporting the claim.

Gandhi also urged Kumar to resign and turn approver over alleged electoral irregularities. He said he had received messages from the chief election commissioner but did not disclose their contents. These claims have not been independently verified.

Addressing the protests, Gandhi said the agitation against Kumar and alleged “vote chori” was a unified movement. His remarks appeared to signal support for youth-led demonstrations, although he did not directly name the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) during the press conference.

Gandhi also criticised security arrangements in Delhi, alleging that restrictions were preventing people from joining the protests. He accused the authorities of treating opposition demonstrators differently from workers associated with the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). These allegations have not been independently established.

The remarks came as INDIA bloc leaders prepared to approach the Supreme Court over alleged electoral irregularities and demand Kumar’s resignation.
