Amit Shah Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi Over SIR, Eyes 2029 Win

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, predicting that the Congress will lose the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Shah accused the Congress of blaming electoral processes for its electoral defeats and urged the party to introspect. He also questioned Gandhi’s ability to connect with voters beyond protests in Delhi.

Shah predicted that the Congress would suffer a fourth consecutive defeat in the 2029 general elections, while expressing confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would return to power. His remarks were political predictions, not established outcomes.

Shah cites BJP’s Gujarat victories

Shah’s comments followed the BJP’s victories in three urban local bodies in Gujarat: Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and the municipalities of Okha and Thara.

In Gandhinagar, the BJP won 38 of the 44 seats, while the Congress secured five and an independent candidate won one. The Aam Aadmi Party failed to win any of the 32 seats it contested.

Shah attributed the results to continued public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also argued that the Congress should examine the reasons for its electoral setbacks rather than blame voter lists or electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Shah further alleged that Gandhi’s protests failed to reflect the concerns of voters in rural and remote areas. He said the Congress needed to strengthen its grassroots presence to regain public support.

His remarks come amid a political dispute over the SIR exercise and its implications for electoral rolls.
