Actor Salman Khan has dismissed reports suggesting that the government pressured the makers of his upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace to change its script over its portrayal of India-China relations.
Speaking at the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai on Friday, Khan said the reports were not true. He clarified that the filmmakers had developed the story independently, focusing on the experiences of soldiers and their families on both sides of the border.
Khan said the film does not aim to portray either side negatively. Instead, it explores the challenges faced by soldiers and the difficult circumstances surrounding military confrontations.
The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, was earlier promoted under the title Battle of Galwan. It draws inspiration from the June 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives.
Khan also explained that Battle of Galwan was not intended to be the film’s final title. The makers later selected Maatrubhumi, taking inspiration from a song featured in the film.
The film was initially scheduled for release in April but has now been postponed to December 4, 2026, Khan announced at the event.
It also features Chitrangda Singh, Mukesh Rishi and other actors in key roles.
