Bhopal launches Pink E-Rickshaw service to promote women’s self-reliance

Mayor Malti Rai says initiative will strengthen safe and eco-friendly urban transport

Bhopal, May 18: Mayor Malti Rai on Monday launched the Pink E-Rickshaw service in Bhopal to promote women’s financial independence and strengthen safe public transport in the city.

The launch programme was organised at the auditorium of People’s University in the presence of beneficiaries and representatives of the RP Foundation.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Rai said the initiative would help women become economically self-reliant while also supporting environmentally sustainable transport.

She said the Pink E-Rickshaw service would emerge as an important step towards creating safer mobility options for women in the city. The Mayor also congratulated the beneficiaries and wished them success in their new journey.

RP Foundation representative Rohit Pandey and beneficiary women were also present during the programme.

BMC continues action against stray cattle on roads

In a separate civic drive, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation continued its campaign against stray cattle roaming on roads, footpaths and other public spaces across the city.

Acting on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain, the Govardhan Project branch of the civic body caught 24 stray animals from different areas and shifted them to cattle shelters on Monday.

The Haka Party also removed 15 animals from roads, while two injured or sick animals were shifted to the Asra animal hospital for treatment. Civic officials additionally transported 20 animals from Anna Nagar Kanji House to Mahamrityunjay Gaushala.

The action was carried out in several areas, including Kolar, ISBT, Shahpura, Karond, Bairagarh, Bagh Mugalia and Saket Nagar.

Encroachment removal drive continues across Bhopal

The municipal corporation also intensified its anti-encroachment campaign in several parts of the city following complaints received through CM Helpline, Mayor Helpline and other public grievance platforms.

Civic teams removed illegal structures, roadside encroachments and obstructions from areas including Jawahar Chowk, MP Nagar, Bawadiya Kalan, Ashoka Garden, Hamidia Road, Karond Square and Gandhi Nagar.

Officials removed handcarts, kiosks, counters, tables, chairs and illegally constructed sheds obstructing public movement. The corporation also seized several items, including seven handcarts, one kiosk, a sugarcane crusher and multiple roadside display units.

In Bawadiya Pallavi Nagar, officials also removed an illegal lock placed on a society park.
