MP SWAN to strengthen digital governance infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh

State government approves Rs 526 crore expansion plan till 2031 under Digital India mission

Bhopal, May 18: The Madhya Pradesh government has approved Rs 526 crore for the continuation and expansion of the State Wide Area Network (MP SWAN) project till March 2031 to strengthen digital governance and improve citizen-centric services across the state.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the state government is focusing on expanding digital infrastructure to ensure transparency, faster public service delivery and better administrative efficiency.

The approval was granted by the state Cabinet for the operation and expansion of the MP SWAN scheme from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2031. The project is being implemented by MP State Electronics Development Corporation Limited.

MP SWAN digital governance network expanded till 2031

The State Wide Area Network is a key digital infrastructure project established under the National e-Governance Plan. In Madhya Pradesh, the scheme was launched in 2006-07 to connect government offices at the state, district and block levels through an integrated digital network.

Through MP SWAN, the central network hub in Bhopal is linked to all districts and block headquarters using MPLS technology. The network provides secure and reliable data, voice and video communication services for government departments.

Officials said MP SWAN has emerged as the backbone of digital governance infrastructure in the state. More than 10,000 government offices are currently connected through MPLS, RF, OFC and LAN technologies, with network uptime exceeding 99 per cent.

Digital services receive major boost

Several key government services, including Sampada 2.0, CCTNS, e-Courts, RCMS, Aadhaar-linked services and treasury operations, are running through the MP SWAN network.

The project has also improved online land records, mutation services, e-District services, law and order monitoring, disaster management systems, online examinations, scholarship systems and digital file tracking across departments.

The state government said high-speed connectivity of up to 1 Gbps has been established in major cities, while bandwidth costs have been reduced by nearly 50 per cent.

Cyber security and disaster recovery systems strengthened

To improve cyber security, the government has implemented a perimeter unified threat management system for continuous monitoring and control of incoming and outgoing network traffic.

Officials said work on a disaster recovery site is also underway to ensure quick restoration of government services during emergencies.

The state plans to further modernise the network through advanced technologies such as high-speed backbone systems, Zero Trust Network Architecture and Network Access Control.

The government said the continued expansion of MP SWAN would help build a secure, scalable and automated digital platform while accelerating the implementation of the Digital India mission in Madhya Pradesh.
