KATNI: Three passengers were killed and around 10 others injured after a truck collided with a passenger bus in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district on Sunday afternoon, according to police.
The accident occurred near the Industrial Area Bridge in the Kuthla area. Police said the bus was travelling towards Kanhwara when the truck, approaching from the opposite direction, struck the vehicle.
Authorities said two men and one woman died in the crash. The injured were taken to the district hospital for treatment. Several victims reportedly sustained serious injuries.
According to police, two passengers were trapped beneath the bus after the collision, while another person was trapped inside the truck’s cabin. Rescue teams, assisted by local residents, carried out an operation to free those trapped. Cranes were used during the rescue effort.
Police said preliminary findings suggest the truck may have suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before the collision. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
Officials remained at the scene as rescue and recovery operations continued. The identities of the deceased were being established, and an investigation into the cause of the accident was under way.
According to officials, investigators are examining the truck’s condition, witness statements and other evidence as part of the inquiry.
