Congress Stages Protest in Indore Over Drinking Water Crisis

INDORE: Congress workers staged a major protest in Indore on Tuesday over the city’s worsening water crisis, accusing civic authorities of failing to provide clean and adequate drinking water during the summer.

The demonstration at Rajbada drew party leaders, workers, women and residents from several areas of the city. Protesters carrying empty earthen pots, water bottles, banners and placards raised slogans against the mayor and the municipal corporation, demanding immediate action on water shortages.

A heavy police presence was deployed at the protest site, with officers also monitoring the gathering from nearby rooftops. Traffic was diverted in parts of the area to avoid congestion.

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari alleged that residents were being forced to consume contaminated water and claimed that much of the city’s water supply had become unsafe. He said the Congress party would release a report within three days on water quality and the growing crisis.

A senior Congress leader criticised the mayor and civic administration for failing to resolve the issue.

After the Rajbada protest, Congress workers marched towards the municipal corporation headquarters, where clashes and shouting broke out with police after the main gate was shut. Protesters smashed several earthen pots outside the office before the demonstration ended following assurances from officials.
