Madhya Pradesh will open at least one “farm equipment rental shop” in every assembly constituency. The state government wants small and marginal farmers to use modern farm machines without having to buy them.
The plan is part of the state’s Farmer Welfare Year 2026. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has asked officials to set up these rental shops across all assembly seats. The results of this push are expected soon.
The state already runs 5,260 such rental centres. From now on, 1,060 new shops will open every year.
“We make equipment used in farming, like loaders, deloaders and cultivators. All this equipment is useful for farmers,” says Manas Gupta of Usha Agro, a manufacturing unit in Vidisha.
Vidisha Leads in Farm Machine Manufacturing
Madhya Pradesh is becoming self-reliant in making farm machines. Vidisha district has set an example here. Local units now make graders, levellers, hydraulic trolleys, cultivators and ploughs.
Around 150 farm equipment manufacturing units operate in Vidisha. Their products are in demand not just within India, but also abroad. Equipment made in the district is sent to Madagascar, Nigeria, Sudan, Uganda, Ghana, Algeria, Guatemala, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Small farmers get access to these modern machines at a low service charge. The government is also encouraging young entrepreneurs to enter this business.
Local Manufacturers Share Their Story
Manas Gupta’s father started the business in 1993, on a small scale. Over the years, the family expanded it. Today, their equipment reaches more than 10 countries, including Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Ghana, Algeria and the UAE. Local farmers remain their biggest customers, but two-thirds of their business is now within India and one-third comes from exports. The unit does business worth around ₹4 crore a year.
Gupta says government support has helped at every stage, from production to expanding the business abroad. He also attended the G-20 summit on a government initiative, which covered about 75 percent of his travel costs.
Vishnu Sharma of Sanjay Udyog makes tractor equipment such as cultivators and ploughs. His products are sold mainly in Vidisha and nearby districts, with an annual turnover of about ₹50 lakh. He started the business in 2020, during the Covid-19 crisis, and says farmers accepted his products quickly. He wants the government to offer more training support to small manufacturers like him.
Vipin Raghuvanshi of Kisan Industries makes cultivators, ploughs, loaders and deloaders. Most of his products are sold in and around Vidisha. Deepak Narvariya of Agro Smart Technology said his equipment reaches farmers across several states, with an annual turnover of about Rs3 crore.
Their equipment supports farming at every stage, from preparing fields to sowing, planting and harvesting.
