Revenue inspector caught accepting Rs 80,000 bribe

JABALPUR: A revenue inspector was arrested by the Lokayukta police on Tuesday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a businessman for carrying out land demarcation work, officials said.

According to Lokayukta officials, the businessman had purchased land in Shahpura tehsil for setting up a processing plant. While the land had already been transferred in his name, the demarcation process was pending.

The complainant alleged that after examining the documents, the revenue official pointed out certain deficiencies, which were subsequently rectified. Despite this, the official allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh to complete the demarcation process and continued to delay the work for nearly two months.

Following a written complaint, the Lokayukta conducted a verification exercise, which officials said confirmed the bribery allegation. A trap was then organised.

On Tuesday, the official allegedly asked the complainant to bring the money near his residence. Acting on the pre-arranged plan, the complainant handed over Rs 80,000, following which the Lokayukta team apprehended the accused while allegedly accepting the cash.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further legal proceedings are underway, officials said.
