RGPV Students Protest Over Water Crisis

BHOPAL:  Students at Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) in Bhopal staged a protest on Wednesday over an acute water shortage in university hostels, alleging that even drinking water was unavailable during the peak summer season.

Students gathered at the university’s main gate on Airport Road and blocked the entrance, disrupting the movement of buses and other vehicles into the campus.

The protesters said hostel residents had been facing severe shortages of water and electricity for several days. Some students claimed they had been unable to bathe for two to three days because of the lack of water supply.

Students said the crisis had continued despite repeated complaints to the university administration and added that the situation was particularly difficult as examinations were underway.

The students began a sit-in protest at the main gate around 4 p.m., demanding a permanent solution to the problem. They said the agitation would continue until the administration addressed their concerns.

Students also alleged that similar problems were being faced at the university’s girls’ hostel, where residents had earlier complained about water and electricity shortages. However, they claimed no concrete action had been taken by the authorities.

University officials had not issued a detailed response at the time of filing this report.
