Kalyan Banerjee Softens Remark on Abhishek Banerjee

KOLKATA: TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has softened his stance towards Abhishek Banerjee, calling him “like my son” and saying a father should forgive a son’s mistakes after earlier criticism and an ultimatum to party chief Mamata Banerjee to choose between them.

He had earlier accused Abhishek Banerjee of arrogance and blamed him for the party’s problems, and told Mamata Banerjee to choose between him and her nephew.

Speaking to ANI, he said he was willing to forgive, marking a clear U-turn from his earlier remarks.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Trinamool Congress continued after CID officials conducted searches at the Kolkata residence of Abhishek Banerjee, according to reports.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose alleged that police arrived early in the morning and a disaster management team was used to break locks before the search, which lasted about 90 minutes and found no evidence.

She called it political vendetta and intimidation, while the authorities have not responded to the claims.

Banerjee also dismissed talk of merging with the Congress and criticised opposition MPs, saying they were being influenced by the BJP.

Political tensions in West Bengal continue to rise amid growing internal divisions within the Trinamool Congress party leadership and state politics reports suggest.
